Who We Are and What We Do
Jack Russell Rescue is a non-profit, community-based organisation controlled and operated by volunteers.
JR Rescue was
established by co-founders, Jill Clinch and Sandra Ferris, to save and
re-home abandoned Jack Russell Terriers and JRT cross-breeds that find
themselves on death row in pounds throughout Australia.
Whilst the
majority of dogs arrive at the JR Rescue shelter from death row, a few
unwanted dogs are privately surrendered to us for re-homing due to a
change in circumstances, such as a marriage break up or death. If we
have the capacity, we will always endeavour to accept a JRT in need.
On average, we
will have 35-40 dogs in care, and re-home more than 200 dogs per year.
The number of dogs re-homed is increasing every year, and this year we
are expecting to get closer to 250 dogs into our Rescue.
The dogs that we offer for adoption may not all be pure JRTs, but at JR Rescue, we believe they are worthy of saving.
Each dog is de-sexed, vaccinated, heartworm tested, microchipped, wormed, temperament assessed, and vet-checked prior to re-homing.
We also provide follow up advice for the new families of our rescue dogs. There is also some Training Tips on our Jack Russell TIPS and LINKS page. It is our aim to ensure that each of these dogs finds the best possible forever home.
Where We Are
Whilst JR Rescue
is Sydney based, we re-home dogs all over Australia, and several of our
dogs have gone to their new homes in Western Australia.
The shelter
operates in private kennels and through a network of foster carers in
the community. A location is indicated for each individual dog in their
website profile.
Where Your Donations Go
Jack Russell Rescue relies entirely on donations and volunteers to continue its operations and we do NOT receive any government funding.
ALL of your donations go directly to the care and welfare of our rescue dogs.
Each dog is
de-sexed, vaccinated, heartworm tested, microchipped, wormed,
vet-checked and temperament-assessed prior to re-homing.
Jack Russell Rescue has Charitable Fund tax status, which means all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
Special Notice
It is with great
sadness that we advise Sandra Ferris passed away in 2008. As co-founder
and Secretary of our group, Sandra was a wonderful champion for our
beloved breed. She will be greatly missed.
