Hi Rosie, have you contacted the rescue you got her from? You are still in the settling in period, so some behaviours may be due to the stress of relocation, others perhaps separation anxiety. Like with children, you need to keep things out of reach of a young dog. Also, get in the habit of taking her for a toilet walk after eating, and use the word "toilet" (or similar) then when she toilets praise her a lot. Jill may have some helpful hints too, and also look at our Jack Russell TIPS and Links page.

Hi JRT enthusiasts. I am trialling a a jrt from a rescue site in Newcastle. Not having been familiar with the breed, I am finding out a few surprises. I simply fell in love with her picture. She has a lovely personality but on the negative side: eats everything and anything in site including, soap. kitchen cupboards, my rug! She also soiled the laundry where she sleeps at night and reqwuires constant attention. I am exhausted. Any tips. I do not want to return her; however do these behaviours improve with training ? thanks Niki

Hello,

I was wondering if Cassidy was still available. I note that you mentioned you can home them all over Australia. If my family would like to add Cassidy into their mix would he be able to be transported somehow to Melbourne.

I adopted a dog Back in 2006, Amy was her name. Still with us and a fantastic dog.

However, my sister adopted a Jack Russell in 2010 as a 6 month old pup, Odie, and we later found out that she was allergic to dogs. My family and I continued to look after him as my Dad was going through treatment for cancer at the time and Odie was the dog that would always be on guard next to my Father.

Sadly, we did end up losing my father in early 2011 and since then my mother and I have taken on care of Odie.

This is now becoming a burden on my mother due to her own illness and I live in an apartment that barely let me keep my own dog.

I'm now stuck with the horrible situation of having to re-home this beautiful boy.

As much as it pains me to have to find him a new home, I know that a loving owner will make his life just a wonderful.

Thank you.

Hi.. I just lost my Jack Russell, Geordie. He was bitten several times by a large brown snake... I saw him attacking it - and there was nothing I could do - he was trained and such a great dog, company - he was loved by all.

However, once those jack russell instincts kick in there was nothing I could do to stop him. I raced him to the vet - unfortunately they were unable to save him.

I miss him and when I am ready will be looking to adopt. I thought about going to a different/safer breed of dog - however these guys are just so Great.

I have bought 2 snake repellers - solar powered metal stakes that emit a vibration - that others swear by? Plus, Gypsy doesn't run straight out into the yard until I have a look. I can't guarantee it but I'm doing my best for her & now I know that the signs aren't always the same, I'll go to the vet if I even think there's a chance. I've cared for all my dogs like they were 'my family', this was just bad luck. Miss them terribly!

I WANT TO TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO WARN EVERY ONE OF THE DANGER OF SNAKES, it seems to be a BAD year! MY OLD 'JACK D' WAS BITTEN A WEEK AGO, DID NOT SHOW FULL SIGNS OF A BITE & EVEN AFTER VET DID HER BEST, HE SADLY DIED 3 DAYS LATER. IF IN DOUBT, TAKE STRAIGHT TO YOUR VET OR NEAREST VET. DON'T LOOSE YOUR BEST FRIEND.

I am so glad to see a rescue. I am hooked on the breed. As a breeder I always take back any dog that people can not keep and find new forever homes for them. Thankfully that is a very rare occasion. I screen people before they get any of my puppies. There are so many wonderful dogs up for adoption I always encourage that route for people that do not want to buy a puppy from a breeder. I wish we could close down all puppy mills and have more responsible breeding. Thank You for doing a great service!

hi jill, a few lines to let you know 'lance' is getting on very well he is over his rather nasty dose of kennel cough, and enjoying being rather spoilt as he is the only boy - at the moment! he's getting lots of walks and meeting fascinating things that he's never seen before - i will contact you in about two weeks to get lance - renamed 'boogie' into the vets for his de-sexing, as this was cancelled due to his cough and i am away for a week from next thursday. many thanks jill for the great and compassionate work you do - maybe i can foster at a future date. kind regards, barbara
