Since starting Jack Russell Rescue, some of our beloved dogs are no longer with us.
If you have had one of our Jacks and he/she has gone to the Rainbow bridge, please send us a picture
to include on our site. And we thank you for giving them another chance to enjoy life.

Please page down to see our dogs that have gone over the Rainbow bridge.

MANNY 2008
Was rescued from the Gold Coast pound by his new owner Sandra Watkins, his problem was that he was too much of a character for several previous owners.

He was fabulous and we loved him (he is the one on the far right). Thank you, also to Sandra Watkins and family for their kind donation to help another hairy over-busy JR to get a new home.

We were so fortunate to have had Jack for nine years, we adopted him when he was 8 and how lucky we were!! He was the most beautiful dog one could ever have and introduced us to the wonderful world of JRT's. We miss him every day, he was a great friend and a great companion and the most loving little man we coud ever have asked for. We love him so. DODGER - 2010
Hi Jill, following on from our telephone conversation yesterday, I forward some details on “Dodger”.

We adopted Dodger from Sandra in 2004, and he immediately become one of us. He followed me around everywhere I went and kept looking up at me like a small child does. He learned to love our female Jack “Trixie" and they were great mates, with Dodger often ruling the roost with her. He was an escape artist, no matter what we did to dog proof our yard, he still found a way out, and we would often come home to numerous messages on our answering machine, saying they had Dodger and then no he’d gone, and then the next person would leave a message. But he would most times return home of his own accord. Two years ago we moved onto 3.5acres which Dodger loved. He ran himself so ragged the first few days he would sleep so sound and couldn’t wake easily. (we thought he had passed away then).Dodger adapted to rural life easily and used to sit on our ride on mower while I mowed the lawn.  Dodger always had a very healthy appetite and would eat anything and everything especially a Scotch Finger Biscuit from me or the Kids. Dodger eventually succumbed to illness and went to sleep on 3rd August 2010. He had a beautiful life with us and was much loved by our extensive family.

RIP Dodger 1st April 1996- 3rd August 2010. You were a great mate.

SUZY -2010

Dear Jill -  it is with deep regret and upset that I let you know that my little treasure Suzy is now running free over the Rainbow Bridge.

She really was an incredible little gem – she NEVER barked, NEVER even bared her teeth. Only last weekend an elderly neighbour home all day said she had NEVER EVER heard her make any sound. The gentlest little dog I have ever known. But very, very independent – in fact, she preferred being by herself, she just never liked being with other dogs. Not viciously, just a loner totally happy with her own company. She LOVED her walk, and rarely a night passed without both of us walking 4-6kms. She took me!!

She was approaching 13.5 years old, and about 2 months ago, I noticed that her usual long walk needed to be curtailed a bit. And though her walk was still a necessity, they grew shorter. Still, she was bright, active, still loved her food, and was bright and happy. On June 14th, I was offered a beautiful 9 week old Jack Russell pup for free – I rescued this pup as the breeder had planned to have it put down as it had an over-bite. (breeder felt her over-bite was too much of a defect!!) So completely unexpectedly, in my way, I rescued this little pup.

Almost over night, Suzy went down hill. She went from her normal long walk to being unable to walk outside to do a wee. No injury, no illness, she was in no pain, she just faded away. Today she passed away, being held in the arms of a lovely dog loving neighbour, whilst I was at work. I was home within 5 minutes, and she looked so peaceful and free. It might sound silly, but I almost feel that she hung around long enough till she knew I wouldn’t be left alone.

BEYOND THE RAINBOW

As much as I loved the life we had and all the times we played,
I was so very tired and knew my time on earth would fade.
I saw a wondrous image then of a place that’s trouble-free
Where all of us can meet again to spend eternity.

I saw the most beautiful Rainbow, and on the other side
Were meadows rich and beautiful – lush and green and wide!
And running through the meadows as far as the eye could see
Were animals of every sort as healthy as could be!
My own tired, failing body was fresh and healed and new
And I wanted to go run with them, but I had something left to do.

I needed to reach out to you, to tell you I’m alright
That this place is truly wonderful, then a bright Glow pierced the night.
‘Twas the Glow of many Candles shining bright and strong and bold
And I knew then that it held your love in its brilliant shades of gold.

For although we may not be together in the way we used to be,
We are still connected by a cord no eye can see.
So whenever you need to find me, we’re never far apart
If you look beyond the Rainbow and listen with your heart.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
